In an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Sunday morning, Republican Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter says he is going to introduce legislation today forcing the NFL to relax some of its trademark restrictions on the use of the word Super Bowl.
The NFL has been quite aggressive in forcing businesses and organizations to develop other terminology for The Super Bowl...a phrase that NFL has trademarked. That's how THE BIG GAME became code for the Super Bowl.
While its understandable that the NFL would look askance at a consumer product goods company that tried to sneak in a Super Bowl Sale when they are not official sponsors of the The Super Bowl, the NFL has taken their trademark boundaries to the extreme.
Over reports that the NFL sent cease and desist orders to a church that was hosting a Super Bowl party complete with a six foot TV screen, Senator Specter says enough is enough.
Of course, Senator Specter has been battling the NFL on other issues as well
