EU Parliament Approves Recommendations to Ban Sexist Advertising

The folks at YouTube must be smiling a lot today.  Advertising Campaigns like Dove  Pro Age Campaign

and Rolling Rock Man Thong have already proven that getting banned from television is not the worst thing in the world.

However, the European Union Parliament just passed a recommendation to ban all sexist advertising from European airwaves. While the resolution is not binding, there are some that are anticipating that it could result in a huge shakeup in European Advertising.
I don't think so.
While TV advertising is not irrelevant, it is also not the end all bees all for branding anymore. What can't be seen on TV can be seen on the internet. What TV stations don't need is to give viewers more motivation to tune out and logon to YouTube. The EU advertising decision is the topic of my post today on BlogHer.
