Should FunnyBusiness be my starter blog name?
Call it blogger's naivite. When I named this blog, FunnyBusiness I wasn't thinking long term.
I wasn't thinking that there was a newspaper columnist who owned the url for funnybusiness who might one day decide to start blogging.
I didn't think that another group of bloggers would launch their own blog called, Funny Business.
When you are in business, not thinking ahead is a problem. I have a problem. In the next few days I will make a decision of whether to continue calling this blog FunnyBusiness or come up with a new name that is less replicable.
I'm on the fence. But I'm thinking. You can read more at Blogher

When I read your post I felt terrible. The last thing I wanted to do when I started blogging was cause trouble for other bloggers. I guess like you, I wasn't thinking long term when I started. There were a few "Funny Businesses" out there, and it never occured to me there might be branding conflicts & reader confusion. Anyway, you had the name first, so I'd be happy to change my blog's name if you'd like. Just let me know. I apologize for causing you problems.

Read your post .. thought what a bummer. Then read Brad Shorr's comment and thought WoW .. what a nice guy. So I guess the questions are how much 'brand equity' will you loose if you change names and will a new brand name better reinforce your positioning long-range (wink).
Whatever the name, just keep the great content coming! Wishes for a great 2007!

Toby, Brad is a great guy. We just got off the phone. He is going to change the name of his blog --said he was thinking of doing it anyway to have his domain and blog names the same ( can you relate to that one?)
As we chatted, however, the challenges of changing your blog name became obvious. Which directories has he listed the blog? How can he seamlessly make the transition. Sounds like the subject of a blog post.
Happy 2007.
